Keeping Yourself Fit So That You can Play

You buy the finest clubs, custom sized to fit your frame and swing style. You have an Italian leather golf bag, and always wear the latest golf fashions. Every holiday, birthday and other gift giving occasion is a time for your family to buy you some golf related accessory or doodad, but what about the most important part of your golf game? Of course, that is your own body. The best clubs, tees and clothes will do you no good at all if you are not healthy enough to pick your golf bag up and get out the door.

No matter what kind of golfer you are, from beginner to advance, you must be physically fit to play. Of course, that is true no matter what sport you play. Golf can be a major danger to your shoulders, hips and lower back if you are improperly conditioned. Make sure that you are physically ready to head out for the course, and consider sticking to nine holes of golf until you are stronger and in better shape.

So, what exercises should you perform to not only keep you healthy and strong, but to help with your golf game as well? Keep in mind the main muscle groups worked during a round of golf and that will give you a basic idea. Also plan to do exercises to build your stamina/endurance, as well as to strengthen your cardiovascular system as well. You are already well aware that there is a lot of walking involved in a golf game- so start there. Make sure that you are logging time either on the treadmill or better yet, in the fresh air of nature. Aim to work yourself up to at least five miles per walking session, but build slowly. If you can handle a five-mile walk with relative ease, then either add distance, hills or speed to the walk. Keeping your heart strong is very important.

Strength training is important as well, not only to keep your weight down, (muscle has a higher metabolism than fat) but also to protect the body parts that you use during your golf game. You know that you use your shoulder and other upper body muscles during your swing, but your core and leg muscles come into play as well. Do not focus just on your upper body; you need to work every muscle group in your body to keep yourself in good golfing condition. Do not automatically assume that you need to need to heft super heavy weights to properly work your muscle groups, some of the smaller working muscles can become nicely conditioned with lower weights, lifted at higher reps.

Learning Golf Basics Is As Easy As Shouting Fore!

For any number of people, on any golf course, a game of golf is no more than striking a number of golf balls with whatever club and eventually stoping to drink, eat, and exaggerate about our game. I am very sure these people are enjoying the sport without ever learning any golf basics.

That is one group of golfer. There is another. The golfer that lives the game knows that it is impossible to really enjoy it unless you learn the basics. In business it may be: location, location, location but in golf basics it is practice, practice, practice.

Let us approach the game first by gathering all the gear. A big part of that game is the game in your head and patience. Watch a pro match and see the quite, talent and grace exhibited by the players. This effortless power takes the same amount of exertion as any other sport. The beginner learning golf basics must be patient and learn to take their time to line up each shot. They will learn to look ahead to the next hole and to the point of knowing what club is their best bet for that challenge.

In learning golf basics you will learn the general rules of the game itself, as well as the basic terminology. If for no other reason you learn the lingo to keep from being embarrassed while golfing with friends or relatives. Just some basic terms will do fine don’t get crazy.

OK now here we are. We have studied golf basics and it’s time to pick up that club and swing it. The golf swing is not natural to the beginner. Don’t feel bad if when you first pick up a club you don’t know how to hold it or use it. What you have to do now is read a good instruction book and get out on the range. While at the range you can pick up pointers from the club pro or more experienced golfers. The best course of action is to get some good hands on instruction from a certified instructor.

Take the sport on and enjoy every swing and remember learning golf basics are as easy as shouting fore!

Why Do Golfers Shout Fore?

Did you ever wonder why golfers shout FORE as a warning? This is what I found. Let us start with cadies, caddie or caddy. It is said that this term was developed an early British custom of having Royal Cadets carry the golf clubs of royalty. This apparently developed into the term a Caddie.

Like wise the term Fore has been explained as a term used by the military to warn friendly troops that you were going to fire a battery of weapons over their heads. It was a keep your head down warning.

The explanation I like the best and seems to make the most sense is the Fore-Caddie. These caddies, in the early days of golf, waited down range for the assigned golfer to hit his ball. Then the Fore-Caddie would be warned of the oncoming golf ball by a shout “Fore”. Keep in mind that many could not afford to play golf in the early days because of the price of a golf ball. You think they are pricey now well think of paying the equivalent of $50.00 or $75.00 per ball. Yikes!

This was the reason for the caddie that I believe. They served a dual purpose of club caddie and ball finder. The military version of Fore as a warning to friendly troops is not widely accepted it is more likely that the Fore-Caddy explanation if the actual definition of how the warning of Fore came about. Have a great golf game and keep your score low and truthful.

Weather you believe fore is a old military term or a term left over from the days of expensive golf balls one thing is for sure.  If you hear a golfer shout fore and your on a golf course, KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN.
